Smart Dental Biomaterials: From Antibacterial Therapies to Tissue Regeneration

The Society For Biomaterials hosted a webinar on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Santiago Orrego presented Smart Dental Biomaterials: From Antibacterial Therapies to Tissue Regeneration. The first portion of the webinar highlighted recent developments of antibacterial technologies in restorative dentistry and novel approaches to measure the bond strength of dental restorations. The second part covered emerging biomaterials for remineralization applications.

About the Presenter:
Dr. Santiago Orrego currently holds an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Health Sciences and Bioengineering Department at Temple University in Philadelphia. His interdisciplinary research combines approaches from advanced materials, microbiology, and engineering towards the development of smart biomaterials to improve oral health. His work encompasses various aspects of antibacterial and regeneration technologies, mechanical properties of mineralized tissues, and self-stiffening materials. He presently serves as web representative of the Dental/Craniofacial Biomaterials SIG in the SFB.
