Prof. Christopher Jewell (University of Maryland) named 2015 Damon Runyon Innovator

Professor Christopher Jewell, Assistant Professor in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland, has been named one of six 2015 Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovators by the Damon Runyon Cancer Research foundation. According to the foundation, the Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award is designed to support the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with high-risk/high-reward ideas that have the potential to significantly impact the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of cancer. Professor Jewell’s  lab designs new materials for therapeutic vaccination. As a Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovator, Chris will receive flexible support to develop a polymer-based cancer vaccine aimed at controlling T cell differentiation to combat tumor relapse. Dr. Jewell is a member of the Immune Engineering SIG and is co-chairing a session on biomaterials and adaptive immunity at the national meeting this year in Charlotte.  Click here to read more.
