Professor Christopher Jewell, Assistant Professor in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland, has been named one of six 2015 Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovators by the Damon Runyon Cancer Research foundation. According to the foundation, the Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award is designed to support the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with high-risk/high-reward ideas that have the potential to significantly impact the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of cancer. Professor Jewell’s lab designs new materials for therapeutic vaccination. As a Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovator, Chris will receive flexible support to develop a polymer-based cancer vaccine aimed at controlling T cell differentiation to combat tumor relapse. Dr. Jewell is a member of the Immune Engineering SIG and is co-chairing a session on biomaterials and adaptive immunity at the national meeting this year in Charlotte. Click here to read more.
